The House was designed to respect the scale, character and the design principles of traditional Irish rural houses, side by side with elements of contemporary design + detailing.
The Front Entrance is located + designed to be sheltered + protected from the adverse south west weather + wind experienced on this particular site.
The house is designed to have a ‘block’ containing the Living Areas which is predominantly south + west facing to maximize the sun light, solar gains + the views. The Bedrooms are located towards the north + the east. A south facing sheltered Patio Area is formed between both wings.
The garden runs up to the south, west + east elevations the house, to enhance the house’s connection with the site. Garden spaces are secluded + private.
The house form is simple, proportioned and is related to rural building forms of Waterford. The house has been broken up to keep the house in scale with its surroundings and to articulate different elements.
